Roshi Kapleau Memorial Sitting:Sunday, May 8 This special half-day sitting is in honor of Roshi Philip Kapleau, who died in 2004 at the age of 91. Roshi Kapleau was the founder of the Rochester Zen Center, author of The Three Pillars of Zen, and Sensei Graef's Zen teacher for 35 years. During this extended sitting there will be a special chanting service and one of Roshi Kapleau's recorded talks will be played. All adults with sitting experience are welcome. Vesak: The Buddha's Birthday

According to tradition, the Buddha was born on April 8. However, for purely practical reasons we celebrate this event in May when the weather is warmer and we can be outdoors.
