On Monday, September 20, from 7–8:30 p.m., the Rev. Jomyo Tanaka, a Shingon Buddhist priest and master of traditional Japanese calligraphy, will grace the Zen Center with a demonstration of calligraphic techniques using the En Mei Jikku Kannon Gyo as his subject.
Ajari Tanaka was born in Japan in 1947. He began practicing Buddhism and calligraphy at the age of six under the tutelage of his grandfather. After graduation from high school, he entered the Kongo-ji monastery in Tokyo where he began his training. He then spent a year at Daikaku-ji monastery in the outskirts of Kyoto and received his certifications in Shingon, flower arranging and calligraphy.
The suggested donation for the evening is $10. All are welcome.
